WWCC Presents: Walla Walla Spring Festival - the aftermath

Thank you everyone for helping with and attending the Walla Walla Spring Festival. Everyone I talked to said they had a great time!

We wanted to thank the following clubs for coming down and getting involved: Anime, Automotive, Culinary, Go Green, GSA, and Phi Beta Lambda.

Other parts of our college that made this possible were the Administrative Department and Kay Raddatz, Melissa Harrison and the Ambassador’s Center, Media department, the Maintenance Department and plant facilities.

All of the bands that performed on Sunday donated all of their time and played free of charge and entertained throughout the day. The Storybook Maneuver started off, followed by Massive Threat, Hung Up, Snack Attack and then headlined by the Tri-Cities rock band, 45th Parallel.

Businesses were involved as well including Coca-Cola, non-profit organization Children’s Home Society and Wilson Promotions. The other businesses present were founded by WWCC students- Patty’s Performance Custom Vehicles, Timmy’s Customs professional detailing, and Beginner’s Mind Martial Arts.

In addition to the various organizations and businesses that came out and shared the day, various individuals deserve specific thanks for their above-the-top assistance including the Walla Walla skateboarding community who were happy to “trick” against Cancer, Miss Dorothy Wilson who graciously provided her clown skills for the youth, Levi Kelly and Ciara Sana for their work on getting much of the entertainment including the skating community and all but two of the bands, WWCC’s Kevin Loomer for his support and the young miss Taya the national dance champion for Jazz and Hip-Hop for her performances.

WWCC Presents: Walla Walla Spring Festival

Lexington Barbecue Festival 2008, street juggl...Image via Wikipedia
WWCC is making some great progress on the Walla Walla Spring Festival held right here on our campus!
Here is an update for all of you that are involved or that are considering getting involved, even just to attend.

We now have around a dozen clubs on-board including Ambassador’s, Culinary, Phi Betal Lambda, and want everyone to know that there is definitely room for more! Each club is encouraged to plan a booth, an activity, a performance or any combination of these things.

Some of the things planned at this point beyond club and college informational centers are:
•    Two performance areas. The main stage will have a number of live bands from our community performing and the other stage is scheduled to be available for performances and other entertainers.
•    A walking parade is in the works with a party theme. To get involved with this, contact Kim at 522-9866.
•    On-the-spot roving game show! Complete with trivia and prizes.
•    PBL is planning a carnival style game at their booth with all proceeds going to March of Dimes.
•    Clubs aren’t the only people that can get involved, we are welcoming more faculty and individual students!
There are a lot of things in the works and it sounds more entertaining with each conversation!

A couple things to consider-
•    Culinary is planning on being at this event and will provide concessions. They understand that some clubs might be interested in providing snacks and they wish to express there can not be home baked or prepared foods. If you plan on setting up a sno-cone machine or the like, please pass it by the Culinary adviser prior to the event.
•    PBL is not asking for any funding or profit sharing from the other clubs. Every penny your club makes is sent to your club unless you allocate it to something else, but PBL is not asking for percentages.
•    The club booths will be set up in the front parking lot of the college directly in front of the information / foundation building. There are no electrical outlets near the parking lot and if any power is needed, generators would be strongly recommended. PBL is looking at generator rentals and will assist where they can.

Join this festival and raise funds or do some community service for your own club. More importantly, have a great time with the loads of creativity.
To get more involved, contact PBL President, Joshua Conley at joshua.l.conley@student.wwcc.edu or 509-301-7831. Also, contact PBL adviser Mike Hays 527-4695 or your own club president and adviser.

PBL walks against Cancer

official logo of the American Cancer Society R...Image via Wikipedia
Phi Beta Lambda is a strong team of business leaders and fighting cancer is a team effort so the Walla Walla PBL have banded together some dedicated club members and formed a Relay For Life team to walk against Cancer! The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone.

The initial members of our team include our Relay team captains Heather Warner, Vice President Josh Gaither and President Joshua Conley as well as Debbie Fullen, our ASB Representative, Treasurer Kim Patzkowski, Secretary Lori Mahan, Parlaimentarian Sarah Adams, State Secretary Dorothy Wilson, Jessica Retzlaffand, and friend of PBL Tabiatha Rozumny.

At the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save more lives from cancer. Our reasons for walking are many. Some walk for care of our Walla Walla community, others walk because they have loved ones who have been afflicted by Cancer and we have one walker that is a Cancer survivor! Our reasons are different but our care is the same and that what makes our team excited to get onboard of this great event!

By joining or donating to our team, you will be a part of a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

Please make a donation, or join our team and help us create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone’s life.

Earth Day

Walla Walla Community College's Go Green! Club had organized a huge Earth Day event which highlights the many opportunities to keep our environment clean and green! This event saw green cleaning products, and electric motorcycles as well as other electric vehicles.
Many organizations inside the college and out have gathered together to help our Mother Earth. Representatives from ACE Hardware, Lewis & Clark College, WWCC's Art Department, and Phi Beta Lambda were all present and sharing valuable information.
PBL was eager to share some business practices that promote green thinking in the workplace and highlighted many International companies by showing some of their creative eco-friendly behavior. The club also illustrated our own green thinking practices ranging from digital communications rather than paper  to our efforts to collect and recycle discarded cell phones for the troops at war.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES

Home Depot

GE – General Electric

McDonalds

Walk A Mile In Their Shoes - 2010

Walk A Mile In Their Shoes is the walk against child abuse that members of Phi Beta Lambda are organizing and operating to help raise awareness of and put a stop to child abuse in our community. This is the second annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes that Walla Walla has seen and we look forward to making this a memorable day in beautiful Pioneer Park.

The walk will occur on March 27, 2010, at Pioneer Park from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  This is a family event including field day activities for the children and a free lunch as long as supplies last.  There will be music, special speakers, and information to educate and raise the community’s awareness about child abuse prevention.  We will be walking the perimeter of Pioneer Park, which is 1.34 miles, once at 11:00 a.m. and a second time at 2:00 p.m.

We are representing the Council on Child Abuse Prevention and are contacting local businesses and people within the community such as you to ask for donations to the Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event, a walk against child abuse. There are two ways you may donate-  Of course we will accept cash or check (made payable to the Council on Child Abuse Prevention). These donations can be brought to the event or PBL President, Joshua Conley is available to pick your donations up. He can be contacted at 509-301-7831.

We are planning for a great day in the park with you and your family so won't you come and participate in support of this worthy cause.

PBL Cookbooks available NOW

From cooking in the classroom to cooking in the bookstore!

Members of Phi Beta Lambda had put together a cookbook in this last year with many creative folks in our club donating recipes to this nicely bound, wonderfully decorated book ranging from breads to candies, dinners to desserts, this thing has it all...well, a lot to say the least!

For quite some time, this cookbook was only available through a PBL club member or by visiting the PBL advisor's office. Well no longer! For a limited time, you can find our cookbook, "Cooking In The Classroom" at the local Walla Walla Hastings Entertainment store for a modest $11.99!

This cookbook features more than just the classy cover shown here and the beautiful inserts but also a picture of our class and list of students that made this book possible as well as what a person really wants in a cookbook- FOOD RECIPES! You will soon be making appetizers and beverages, soups and salads, veggies and side dishes, main dishes, Breads and rolls, desserts, cookies and candies and MORE! The ten pages of cookies and candies alone will keep you occupied for days, creating masterpiece upon masterpiece that your family and friends will enjoy...if you decide to share!

Congratulations PBL for the creation of this amazing book, you are a club that makes things happen and this is a perfect shining example of that!

To all of you bakers out there, remember, supplies are limited so if you want to have a rare opportunity to see some famous candy recipes not shared anywhere else, hit Hastings Entertainment and tell them you want your copy of the PBL cookbook, Cooking From The Classroom for only $11.99!
